General admission requirements

Before you can apply to Dalhousie, you must meet general admission requirements and program-specific admission requirements.

Minimum admission requirements

Admission to many programs at Dalhousie are competitive; meeting the minimum average doesn’t guarantee admission.

The minimum admission requirements for any program are:

  1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
  2. The minimum overall average required for your program of interest, in five academic Grade 12 courses (see list below)
  3. A qualifying final grade in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject (see list below)

Different programs have different course requirements and academic averages. Find your program to see what you need to be eligible to apply for a program.

Applied Computer Science

Arts

If you’re applying to the Fountain School of Performing Arts as a Theatre major, please fill out the supplemental application form.

Math is not a required subject for this program.

Commerce

This program may employ a competitive average for admission purposes; meeting minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission.

Community Design

This program may employ a competitive average for admission purposes; meeting minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission.

Computer Science

This program may employ a competitive average for admission purposes; meeting minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission.

Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound

This program may employ a competitive average for admission purposes; meeting minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission.

Priority consideration for admission to the BHSc program in the School of Health Sciences will be given to permanent residents of the Maritime provinces. Due to residency restrictions and limited capacity, international students are not eligible for admission to this program.

Engineering

This program may employ a competitive average for admission purposes; meeting minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission.

Health promotion

Math is not a required subject for this program.

Kinesiology

This program may employ a competitive average for admission purposes; meeting minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission.

Management

Medical Sciences

This program may employ a competitive average for admission purposes; meeting minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission.

Integrated science program

Students applying to Medical Sciences may apply to complete their first year in the Integrated Science Program. On your application, select the Integrated Science option. To be eligible, students must also complete two of chemistry, biology or physics and one additional university preparatory course.

Music

Nuclear medicine technology

Nursing

Semester 1 entry - If you are applying to enter the nursing program directly from high school, or if you have completed 12 credit hours or LESS of the Semester 3 pre-requisite post-secondary courses, then you are a Semester 1 applicant.
